Our Impact: Prioritizing People, Provisions and the Planet
Capital Provisions has made it a priority to be a good corporate citizen. One of the ways we're doing this is by partnering with veritree. Together we'll be planting 12,000 trees in 2024. This aligns with our company vision in two primary ways: reducing our carbon footprint, and bringing nutrition where it wasn't.
We’re combining many small California vending companies into one larger one, as well as utilizing efficient truck/service routing technology. This means we can serve the same amount of customers with our trucks driving fewer miles.
Agriculture is the backbone of Rwanda’s economy, accounting for one third of the national GDP. However, Rwanda has been hit hard by rises in inflation; today ~45% of children under the age of five in Rwanda suffer from chronic malnutrition, and one in four is undernourished. The hillsides have been farmed extensively leading to soil erosion and a loss of vital topsoil. A lack of trees that bind the soil on the hillsides have led to landslides.
With the support of Capital Provisions, veritree is partnering with One Acre Fund, the Rwandan government, and local farmers, to promote and verify sustainable agroforestry in Rwanda.
Capital Provisions is also installing break room markets where snacks and beverages were previously delivered via vending machines. Markets allow us to bring a new level of nutrition to our customers by offering fresher, healthier food and meals in their workplace. We chose the Rwanda site because, in addition to planting trees that offset carbon, the trees we’ll be planting there are agricultural/fruiting—producing jobs and food, and enriching the community in many ways.
